ZÁLIV

SMÍCHOV, PRAGUE, CZECHIA - SPRING 2019
An island in the city, artificially torn off the shore from the Smíchov embankment. In the east it is lined by Vyšehrad, in the west by industrial buildings that will replace the new part of Prague. A hard-to-reach houseboat bay with a specific atmosphere that is almost invisible, moored boats and yachts, a rowing club and the presence of water sports on the other side of the river.

We connect the island back to the city. We do not create a carefully landscaped park, but on the contrary reveal a bit of the wildness and nature that it hides. We clean the island from some of the existing buildings and leave the ones we consider valuable. Over the years, nature is expected to make the island a dense forest - an alternative to other parks in the city center. This will restore the species of plants that will contribute to water purification in the river.

We propose a two-story structure to the bay with moored boats and houseboats - we are restoring the port function and promoting water culture. The footbridges stitch the city and island - landscape. At the city level, the structure on the river acts as a promenade. At the water level the house is filled with public functions and is able to change its content according to the seasons. We don't disrupt the houseboat community. On the south axis of the bay we place a swimming pool / ice rink - quiet activities that support the local poetic atmosphere. There is a changing room with a sauna connected to the swimming pool. In the middle part there is a restaurant with open kitchen and a pub. Intermediate spaces may turn into a beer garden or market place during the summer months. The northern end of the building is used for concerts, theaters or films. Seating at different levels, view of the river, walking on the pier, path through the forest, boating.
